Lori McAdams - Clayboard/Scratchboard

Fascinated by history, art history, myth, folklore, and books. McAdams' subject matter, for her artwork, comes from this intersection of story and local surroundings: The art ends up having a visual narrative — which can be immediately readable, or mysterious and hidden. Lori works in colored pencil, watercolor, acrylic, graphite and scratchboard. The dark black ink of scratchboard has been ideal for images with impact: bringing to life bookends, bookstores, and people. It makes these works stand out in the middle of a sea of color. It also reproduces well — a hallmark of its origin in the printing industry. More recently, the artist began exploring color on scratchboard (clayboard). The smaller, more intimate pieces are ideally rendered in colored pencil.
